Why does the cat tremble - Causes and Remedies

Tremor is a natural reaction of the body to various factors and in certain scenarios, it represents a roughly rhythmic oscillation of the muscles, most of the time with the aim of raising the body temperature. Let's see why the cat is shaking though. What are the causes and what are the remedies.

Just like humans, domestic animals also have tremors. Cats are no exception. A cat can tremble for many reasons, and when we notice that our cat begins to tremble for no apparent reason, we must carefully monitor it and start investigations with the veterinarian.

The causes of the shaking of the cat

Hypothermia

It won't be a reason to panic if the cat starts shaking after we give it a bath. Even though we have an ambient temperature in the house that we humans would feel good after getting out of the shower, cats are more sensitive, especially when their fur and skin are wet. The cat's temperature is one to two degrees higher than that of humans, and this, accumulated with the inability to self-regulate its temperature by sweating or to put some clothes on, will start to shiver. In this scenario, trembling occurs as an involuntary reaction of the body in trying to raise body temperature.

So, if you notice that the cat is shivering, warm it with a blanket or take it to a warm place in the house. Likewise, you will notice that the cat will also start shaking after being clipped. Losing a few centimeters of fur, the cat's skin will no longer be able to maintain its optimal temperature on cooler days in the summer or when the air conditioner is turned on in the house.

Hyperthermia

Temperature (fever) is another reason why the cat may shiver. In this case, you must urgently go with her to the veterinarian to find the place of infection and administer an appropriate treatment.

It can be a simple flu, cold or more complex complications. Infections of internal organs that can be life-threatening. The most common is infection or ovarian tumors in cats that are not spayed.

Stress or fear can be the causes of the shaking of the cat

As curious as they are, they are also fearful and stressed when taken out of their environment. It is enough to go out with the cat at the door of the house, and it will start shaking from all its joints.

We must try as much as possible to get the cat out of the stressful situation. Petting and talking in a soft tone can go a long way in calming the feline down.

pain

Cats may begin to tremble when they have a painful experience. From a more serious injury, the consequence of which is acute pain, to internal conditions that cause pain.

In this scenario, an emergency visit to the veterinarian is recommended.

Hypoglycemia can be a cause of trembling in the cat

This is the common cause that can cause shaking and even fainting in both humans and cats. Especially in diabetic cats, hypoglycemic crises can occur, which are manifested by severe shaking. In this case, it is recommended to feed the cat immediately to regulate its blood sugar.

Neurological problems

Most of the time, there is no treatment to get rid of the cat's tremors caused by neurological problems. However, there are remedies, but they can only be applied after careful specialist examinations.

Excitement or joy are not excluded from the list of causes of trembling. These can cause the cat to tremble for short periods of time.
